Jayce has been fascinated by the universal theme of good vs. evil (maybe too much Star Wars?). He's very interested to discover why people choose to do bad things, and in his view my answers are insufficient. His new topic of conversation centers on Jesus, who is perfect, and Satan, who tries to get us to do bad things.
According to Jayce, Satan likes us to do the following:
-Lie
-Kill people
-Drink beer
-Break into people's houses and attack them
-Break into people's houses and attack them and cut up their pools so they can't swim anymore
-Break into people's houses and break their mirrors
-Breathe germs on their little brothers when they're sick
He then asked if Jesus loves Satan. I said that He probably did.
"So, Mom, if Jesus loves Satan, and we're supposed to follow Jesus, do you love Satan, too?"
Hmmm . . . how do I answer that? If I declare my love that just sounds so wrong. But if I don't, how do I explain the disconnect? I used the fine art of distraction to avoid answering. But knowing Jayce, he'll be back to that question in no time. I've been thinking about it, and I could say that we love Satan because he's our brother, but our love should be focused on Christ because He loves us and wants us to be happy. We'll see if that flies. Honestly, Jayce's curiosity is hard to satisfy. That answer will probably lead to more questions. He needs that all-knowing parent who knows just what to say. If any of my wise friends are willing to advise me, I'd be thrilled! :)

Very insightful and a tough question to answer! Peyton sounds like Jayce. I think you're reasoning is a good one...I myself don't have a better answer but the most awesome thing is that Jayce has such a cute testimony and is aware of these things. Keep up the good work!
People that declare a love for Satan tend to make very bad choices. I would avoid saying that you love Satan for sure-- your son could mistakenly start a startling rumor. Stick to "We love Jesus" and "We are sad for Satan". I love how children think!
I laughed out loud when I read about cutting up pools- he is a character! Love that he is so thoughtful. I would try to explain concept of loving the sinner and not the sin. Everyone is a child of God, some just make VERY bad decisions. Good luck with this one!
wow, these kids come up with the most interesting questions as they try to make sense of this world! I think your answer sounds good! :)
That's awesome...sounds very familiar (except the pool one, that is new to me)...just let Jayce know that you are a free loving hippie...it will scare him so bad that you might be a Democrat that he won't dare ask anymore questions!
Yeah for finding me. I will love "peeking" at you.
