Jer and I are really trying to be conservative in our spending. With the economy in doldrums, we just feel it's wise to be careful. And, normally, I am careful. However, have you seen the sales????? I have a really hard time passing up fantastic deals, so I've had to master this amazing ability of walking away. I mean, do we really need a scented Christmas night light? Do we need another Christmas tree (fake) when our current one is holding up? Do we really need one of those charming Christmas trains to circle our tree? Do I really need that shirt that would complement (or is it hide?) my figure? Do the kids need more toys? I mean, how many decorative pillows are required for the living room couches? Normally I would say these items are unnecessary, but at huge percentages off, I'm having second thoughts. Fortunately, these second thoughts don't lead to purchases, just added difficulty. Here I am, wistfully thinking about that cedar/balsam scented night light. Why do I care? Because it was 70 percent off! And yet I couldn't do it. Although we're trying to hold back, we've already spent more than enough this holiday season, and I need to draw the line at frivolity. Sigh! I just need to focus on my blessings and not dwell on missed opportunities (silly ones, at that). :)
Note: I wasn't criticizing those of you who might be spending $$ on fun things . Fun things are good -- I've bought my fair share. I'm simply wary because we've surpassed our spending ideal and we need to stop buying things (but the stores don't seem to care . . . they're still tempting me).

I am having the same problem! I've always wanted a Kitchenaid mixer, and it's totally on sale! But so is the new digital camera I want... I have expensive tastes. Luckily, I have had some self control. I don't know how much longer I can hold out, though! This season needs to hurry up and be over!
I must agree... its tough when everything is clearanced. I want to go CRAZY and buy it all... I sometimes have it all in my cart, but by the time I get to check I realize I dont NEED it, and the money would be better spent other places. *Sigh* Maybe next year we will all be in economic bliss, and we can go for it.
I hear ya, Lisa! Good luck!
Earlier out of grad school and lots of loans and our finances being really tight, Todd always said, "You're saving us into debt." when I come home and say, "It was on sale."
I have learned to really stick to the needs and it's HARD! All those shiny things at the store....Sigh... maybe if I were a billionaire. Even then...
I hear you! Would you like a jar of Scentsy Christmas tree scent? I have one just for YOU! With the fake tree and all a girl does need her house smelling like Christmas. I was surprised to hear you have decorative pillows, I gave them up years ago with these boys of mine! We are starting a frugal club, ask Leslie she is going to be the Pres!
From one sale shopper to another...there is a reason some of those things are on sale...RUN away. There will always be more, and if you wait you will get what you want at your price, not what they want you to have...that is the trick...
Ya, I am the WORST at the sale gig. My husband just gives me this look each day as the UPS man makes his daily drop on our doorstep. Online shopping is even more evil! I can't wait to declare the shopping DONE so I can put the smoking keyboard away for the season! ;)
I love a good bargain also. It's very hard to pass them up. What a good example you are to us all! :)
