What? Snow in Las Vegas? It's true, it's true! And this was quite a storm . . . even for Utah standards. See my palms trees, laden with the white stuff? What a contradiction!
.

Here is the beginning of the storm . . . not too impressive, but Jayce couldn't resist catching the flakes on his tongue. How would he know to do that? Is that an innate drive? Although he's technically a snow novice, he certainly knows what to do.
.

Amazingly, the snow continued. Usually a Las Vegas "snow storm" consists of a few minutes of light flakes, and that's the end of it. And even that is a huge event. However, this time it kept going and going and going -- enough to get the kids in their snow gear and draw them outside. Here are Jayce and his buddy, Jaden, enjoying the flakes (again, Jayce and his tongue).
.

Of course, a winter storm wouldn't be complete without a snowman. I had to improvise because I didn't have a carrot . . . but I had plenty of buttons, and some Halloween licorice came in handy for the mouth. Alas, no sticks for the arms, so we stuck in multiple leaf stems. Whatever works!
.

The kids were very proud of this accomplishment. I asked Jayce, "What should we name the snowman?" He came up with quite an original one . . .
.

(Drum roll, please) . . . Presenting . . . Frosty!!!! Ta da!!!!
I preferred Skippy, but Jayce won out.
.

Here is the view from my front door. I just love how pretty it is . . . can't beat freshly fallen snow.
.

And another view from the front . . . see? Quite the covering!
Vegas hasn't had this kind of snow for thirty years! The airport closed, many roads closed, schools are closed tomorrow -- complete chaos! I am proud to be a part of such an historic day. Decades later I'm sure Jer and I will be reminiscing about this . . . still shaking our heads in amazement. Granted, I am a Utah girl, so this experience was not new. However, it was new for my kids, and they had such a blast. We definitely had excitement in the air today.

We were so shocked when we saw it on the news! Hooray, I hope you showed your J your snowball making skills. :)
Wow, it is beautiful! We are having a snowstorm today and I love to watch it. (Of course I realize it's much more rare for you!!) I'm glad you took full advantage of the snow---and your snowman is _darling_. Good job on that. :) I think I heard there would be snow for the bowl game, too! Darn "global warming," messing everything up . . . :) Will you be going to the game? I wish we could, but it's not going to work this year. But we'll watch for you on TV, if you're there. :)
Amazing! I'm glad you are all having fun with it! Can Jer get to work o.k.? Or does he get to "work from home" today? Your house looks so pretty, I hadn't seen a picture of the view from the front! I like it!
Wow, that's amazing!! No snow at our home, but on some hills nearby. I even had frost on my windshield this morning. Frosty is beyond cute! :)
Good thing global warming hit...you might have needed a snow blower!
Holy Snow Fall Batman!!!
You almost got a White Christmas!!!
I'm sure you were scoffing at the Las Vegas crowd as they were all running around in the snow induced chaos. After all, we walked to that bus stop...in three feet of snow...uphill both ways?...remember? ;) I just hope the snow didn't kill off all of that beautiful desert foliage in your yard! It looks like it was pure magic for those cute kids! And look at you all prepared with "snow gear..." You can't take the Utah out of the girl...
That snow is amazing! So how is Utah? Are they treating you okay out there? Don't let Bryan hassle you too much. Tell all the kiddies and Jer-Bear hi for me!
Wow, Vegas is just like Provo except for Harry Reed.
My Dad wrote the above-comment since I was logged into blogger at the time (and forgot to log out). :)
