Ahhh . . . the agony of age perception!!

I attended a wedding reception last night. My former boss' son got married (a mere four months after returning from his mission), and I thought it would be fun to see the old coworkers and their families. I call them coworkers, but they were really wonderful friends -- and still are. I just don't see them as often anymore.
The reception was at Lake Las Vegas (a posh, master-plan community where Celine Dion used to live), and because it was so far and late, Jer stayed home with the kiddos. I'm not as familiar with that area, so I kept driving in circles, hoping to find the hotel. I noticed another car doing the same thing, and the driver looked like he was headed for the reception as well. I followed him into a parking garage and asked if he was there for the Davis reception. He seemed so relieved to see another guest so we hunted the place down together. We ended up at the wrong hotel, and I got directions to the correct place. We chatted for quite awhile as we meandered through the parking lot and walked a ways before we found the site. The guy had just returned from his mission and he looked so, so young. I, without my husband, kids, or wedding ring (we still haven't replaced it, yet), looked totally available. Our conversation was cordial, yet I did end up mentioning I was married when I felt his queries were bordering on flirtatious. Then I wondered, "Could I pass for mid-twenties?" Suddenly I felt so flattered . . . I was probably wrong about his intentions, but I'll live in denial. I felt young! It was nice. And fleeting . . .
As I walked into the reception, I saw the families that I knew so well many years ago. The kids were practically young adults and unrecognizable. The age thing rushed quickly back, and any feelings of youth dissipated in a mere moment. Reality struck . . . I'm a 30-something soccer mom! I'm grateful for my wonderful life, but I do feel that time is passing too quickly. My mind doesn't feel any older, however. Aren't I supposed to be mature and all-knowing? Age is a nutty thing!

Yuppers... this blog hit home. I hit the big 3-0 this upcoming year, and I am like... when did that happen? Honestly, I am hoping to make my 30s even better than the 20s. I have a bit more wisdom, but it wouldnt hurt to have a 20 year old body to go along with it. Funny how I didnt appreciate it when I had it. Good times.

Okay, let me clarify . . . he was NOT picking up on me. What could have been super mild flirting was probably just a show of respect for an elder. Seriously, it was nothing!!!!!! I was probably just searching for a reason to feel young again -- that's all. :)
