Primary Program

Today was Jayce's first primary program (he's the one in the BYU shirt -- go Cougs!). As moms we look forward to this day of sweet songs and speaking parts -- looking admirably upon our children as they amaze us. Hmmm. . . . not so easy with Jayce. He was off to a rocky start as he came up to the stands. He stood there, looked out at the congregation, and loudly said, "I don't like church. I'm never coming back, ever again!" Then he loosened his tie and stomped off. I brought him back up (since I'm a primary teacher, I had to be up there to coordinate anyway), and kept him on my lap so he wouldn't escape. He sang the songs with much gusto, and he eagerly awaited his speaking part. However, when the time came, he dashed off in the opposite direction of the podium. I scooped him up and walked him to the microphone, and suddenly he mustered the courage to speak. He proudly said, "The Book of Mormon also helps me learn to live the Gospel." Finally! A success story amidst the chaos. After we sat back down, he told me, very matter-of-factly, that he was going to go sit with Dad. I was more than happy to let him go because I had to deal with my own class. I guess at that point he thought it was cool to walk to the pews and turn around and go back to the stands, again and again. Jeremy was dealing with Alyssa, who was so sad she couldn't be up with me, and I was too busy coordinating the parts with my own class. Needless to say, my son was very distracting. I was finally able to keep him up with me until the program ended. I was so relieved after the closing prayer was said. As cute as that primary program was, it was exhausting!

I did not notice any of Jayce's happenings up there on the stage. I did notice however Gabe and Emmalie both chomping on their gum while they were singing I am a child of God. Emmalie even blew a bubble! What mom sends their children up on stage with gum in their mouth anyway?

The whole time I was worried what other people would think but them I thought "who am I watching?" my kids, everyone is watching their own kids and no one elses, so hopefully no one noticed anything our kids were doing just what their kids were doing! no worries

Jayce is so cute, though! They all did fantastic yesterday. I will sure miss my Sunbeams!

I love it. Jaxon wouldn't do it last year because he was bored and he "did it yesterday" referring to the Saturday practice. This year, no Saturday practice, and I guess he did good, but I was home with the two sickos, so I will have to take everyone's word on that!

I love the new pictures on the side! Way to survive the primary program! I agree...it's a cross-your-fingers-and-hope-for-the-best thing! Our program was on Sunday also. This year was the first he actually sang any of the songs while up in front. We were happily surprised!

I'm the Primary Chorister in our ward, and our program is in two weeks. I have a co-chorister, since Rebekah can sometimes be a little too demanding, and she's bound and determined to get all of the kids' eyes on her before signaling for them to stand up - but more than half our Primary is under the age of 6! So, it's really impossible to get them all to pay attention at the same time. My co-chorister doesn't have any kids, though, so she's learning! It sounds like Jayce did a great job, considering it was his very first program. :)
