Props to Jayce! Since the beginning of the year, things have finally clicked for him in regards to being in situations on his own. He looks forward to preschool . . . he smiles as we wave goodbye. In addition, he loves primary!! He loves the fact that he's out of Sunbeams and has a blast with his new teacher. We no longer debate the merits of going to class -- he's obviously eager to get there. And, in another victory, Jer and I attended ward temple night on Saturday. We explained that he'd be staying with Grandma and Grandpa, and he barely reacted. He was looking forward to the evening and didn't wince a bit. Previously, he would grudgingly go after expressing much anxiety. I felt like I had to give him pep talks and constantly reassure him that we'd be back. It was always such a struggle. Now we seem to have hit a turning point . . . he's confident and breezy, and we're so relieved. We hope it lasts.

Alyssa is in that "all about me" stage. Right now, whenever she sees another young girl, she squeals, "That's me!" In every situation, she must identify herself with someone else. When we read stories, the main character is always Alyssa . . . not Eleanor, for example. She spends an inordinate amount of time drawing herself in her notebooks, with an occasional drawing of another family member (although recently she's taken up dogs). She loves to dress up and announce to the world, "So pretty! Alyssa so pretty!" She spends oodles of time checking herself out in the mirror. Despite displaying her feminine wiles, she's also a tomboy. She's adventurous and is determined to accomplish any physical feat imaginable. When she gets together with Jayce and his friends, she's just one of the boys.

Kids are so fascinating! It's a blessing to be front and center in their development and stages. :)

This is a great blog! Love to hear about what they are doing, and I can just picture them with what you said. :) love it.
Ahhh, how do you spell relief?
It is always a releif when your child finally realizes that the world will not crash down around them if Mom leaves the room.
Congratulations.
I went to the Temple for the first time Saturday since Dec. 2007. Yikes. I'm jealous you got to go to the Vegas Temple. That is one of my favorites.
I loved this post, Lisa! What cute kids you have! I think it is adorable that Alyssa squeals "That's me!" She's a doll!
You should tell Jayce that you are going to leave for a few days. Or maybe a week. And then tell him he needs to feed himself and Alyssa. Then see how he reacts. Deep down, I'm sure he would appreciate your silly joke. Trust me...I know all about parenting!
They are so cute! And I unfortunately have no motivation either.
Whoa, something went wrong with trying to leave my comment. Apologies if you get this twice.
I love how sweetly self-confident Alyssa is. Even with my boys, I worry about helping them feel happy and confident about the way they look, and I think it would be even harder with girls. It looks like you are doing a great job, and I hope Alyssa can hold on to that confidence as she gets older.
Also, I think it is time for you and your husband to plan an overnight trip without the kids. You need to take advantage of this new freedom! :)
Go Jayce! that is wonderful. I am so happy for both of you :)
